Over The Garden Wall

Over the Garden Wall is a mini-series kids cartoon and I highly recommend it for Halloween in particular.
Without giving too much away, there's two step-brothers, Wirt and Greg, who are lost in this fantastical wood and they are trying to find their way home.
It's 10 episodes and each episode is about 10 minutes which makes it super quick to get through. It's super cute, creepy, bizarre and stunning. It ends on a hopeful happy note which is something I needed. That's sort of a spoiler but it's also just nice to know.
Anyways,
I recreated Wirt and Greg into pumpkin versions of themselves. It makes sense in context of the show.

Holding Onto October

It snowed... In October, and it hasn't melted yet. I usually love the first snow, I usually have a 'Lorelai Gilmore first snow' type of moment, but it happened way too early this year. The only thing left was to rebuke the snow and pretend that it hadn't happened yet which felt counterproductive since I'd already shouted at it.

So for now, me and Winter have a bit of a petty feud going. I'll get over it eventually which will probably be in about a week. In the meantime I'm doing a post of me blatantly ignoring the trespassing winter.

I want to enjoy all the seasons, but Autumn in particular means a lot to me. Aside from it just being a gorgeous time of year there's something 'other' about it. I could go on for a long time about why I love it but I won't for now. It's enough that I constantly remind you in (painfully obvious) subtle ways that I'm obsessed with it.

It's been crazy, but overall it's been a really good Fall which has meant a lot.

These were photos I've meant to use for about a month and haven't gotten to use. But they fit the theme of holding onto Autumn.

The seasons are switching again. Here at least. Who knows if it'll switch back to Fall for a couple days but for now I'm stubbornly holding onto October. So...

To October and what remains of it.

Appreciating Leaves

Dead leaves deserve more appreciation

This leaf looks like a banana and I just couldn't not pick it up

Every time I see a leaf on the ground my mood improves drastically
So I'm trying to spread the serotonin

Brief Monster Hunting Prep: Werewolf Edition

There is a distinct lack of fun werewolf songs

Werewolves are a popular monster that suffer from a criminal lack of variety in the tropes relating to them. To be fair, I haven't seen much werewolf related content but the tropes are pretty apparent. In comparison to their vampire cousins, they have been sadly ignored in their potential as a monster.

Rule #1

Werewolves a majority of the time are reasonable human beings. It's best only to kill a werewolf when you are in danger, as the next day they are usually very apologetic about their actions.

Rule #2

They are werewolves not swear-wolves. It's a very important distinction.

Rule #3

Do not get bitten or scratched by a werewolf. Although that seems like a good rule for wildlife in general. If you see anyone starting to look like this...

Chances are they're either a werewolf or they're in a Snickers bar commercial.

Kind of a Rule #4

Werewolves typically own a very fancy house with the basement of a movie set psych ward. Giant chains are commonly used as well. If they do not personally own this house already, it is probably a close family members house. It is also possible that they recently found out the house was/is willed to them. If this is a generationally owned house, there may even be an underground tunnel that leads outside and a secret room.

If they do not have a big house available to them other rules apply. They might even have a friend group.

Some werewolves that don't have a house available to them live in packs in the woods and they usually have a very egotistical 'Alpha' in charge. These 'Alphas' tend to be in reality, 'Betas' with inferiority complexes.

A Rule For Specific Circumstances #5

Typically werewolves are male. In the human portion of their lives they will either have a very loving girlfriend or they're involved in a love triangle. Werewolves will almost always have some kind of romance going on because the only kind of good tragedy is a angsty romantic one. If they have said girlfriend over to their house, the room to the aforementioned basement will most likely be a normal wooden door with a bolt on it. Because weird doors bring up questions.

If the girlfriend doesn't go to the house, the door to the basement is very possibly metal with larger locks.

If you are hunting werewolves team up with the girlfriend. If the werewolf is a friend, the change from human to werewolf will be slower and more controlled than normal. On some occasions the werewolf will actually protect you.

Possible Rule #6

It is unclear whether silver bullets really stop werewolves or if that is just a myth. Bullets themselves do seem like good weapons so it doesn't hurt. Why silver seems to be such an efficient metal against warding off both Vampires and Werewolves is unclear.

* Not real. These are bullet casings with silver paint and modeling clay

Unofficial Rule #7

Vampires and Werewolves tend to not get along easily. Most likely the presence of another predatory creature feels threatening to them. If you need them to get along, often times offering them drinks will help. For varying reasons these monsters tend to really like drinking. It's almost an art form to some of them at this point.

Always a Rule #8

In keeping with the theme of enjoying aesthetics, the full moon is always stunning. While the moon might bring out this particular monster, you can never go wrong with looking at the moon.

Some Special full moons can include..
-The Blood Moon
-Supermoons
-The Corn Moon, which occurs once every three years (we had one this year, it looked orangey yellow)
-The Harvest Moon
-The Blue Moon which normally occurs once every two or three years (we're going to have a Blue Moon October 31st of this month apparently)

Essentially, if you're lucky you can see the full primary colour set.

Anyways, I hope everyone is having a good October and happy hunting or whatever.

The Disney Prince Book Tag

Allison Well (Original Post Linkcreated the original tag and it looked interesting so here I am. There are so many choices I could give for these questions, it's hard to narrow it down. This whole tag was a lot of fun and I'm grateful to Allison Well for creating it.

PRINCE FLORIAN – A Character Who Stumbles Into Things

Mulder (Xfiles)

(Book Choice)
Cat (Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones)

PRINCE CHARMING – A Character Who Looks Past The Exterior Of Those Around Him.

Max (Penelope 2006) There are so many reasons why I love this movie but one thing I appreciated was the fact that Max didn't save Penelope. They both saved themselves even though Max was very inspired by Penelope.

(Book Choice)
George Cubbins (Lockwood and Co by Jonathan Stroud) There's a whole point made in the 'Empty Grave' book about George not caring about the physical appearances of others.

One criticism, did Prince Charming ever look past the exterior of those around him? because I thought he forgot what the charmed Cinderella looked like and simply had some sort of weird foot fetish.

PRINCE PHILLIP – A Character Who Fights For Those He Cares About

Mr. Right (Mr. Right 2015)

(Book Choice)
Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows) (Despite what he admits to himself)

PRINCE ERIC – A Character Who Fulfills The “Dreamy Soft Boy” Trope.

Ben Solo

He would be understanding, gentle and tall.

(Book Choice)
Levi (Fangirl) I liked his and Cath's dynamic in the book.
Or Howl (Howl's Moving Castle) his heart was mentioned as being soft a couple of times.

I'm going to be perfectly honest, the combination of 'Dreamy' and 'Soft Boy' threw me a little. Most of the characters I consider to be soft boys aren't necessarily dreamy.

THE BEAST – A Beastly Character Who Is Redeemed

Daniel (Ready or Not 2019)
Adam Brody is amazing and I liked Daniel early on, but I think he qualifies as a beastly character who gets redeemed. I'm still not over him.

(Book Choice)
Count Olaf (Series of Unfortunate Events) Okay hear me out, Count Olaf wasn't redeemed but he did have a moment of redemption.

ALADDIN – A Character Who Assumes A False Identity.

Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock Holmes 2009)

(Book Choice)
The Scarlett Pimpernel. He used multiple disguises to rescue the French aristocracy during the French Revolution (in the book)

JOHN SMITH – A Character Who Loves To Explore.

The Doctor (Doctor Who)

I couldn't help myself, this was the reason I wanted to do this tag.

(Book Choice)
Dustfinger (InkHeart) The main point with Dustfinger was that he wanted to go home, but it's mentioned in the book that he lived with the traveling circus of sorts for a good portion of time.

LI SHANG – A  Character Who Is A Tough, Military Leader.

Aragorn (Lord of the Rings)

(Book Choice)
Gale (The Hunger Games Books)

FLYNN RYDER –  A Character Who Is A Scoundrel With A Heart Of Gold.

Gwaine (Merlin) I'm still not over him. Honestly let's just assume that I'm not over most of the (movie/tv) guys I've mentioned. Ben Solo, Daniel, Gwaine, the Doctor, Billy.

(Book Choice)
Peaceable Drummond Sherwood (The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope) He was such a fun character who was ever the gentleman and clever red-coat captain.

PRINCE NAVEEN –  A Character Who Undergoes A Transformation.

Billy Hargrove (Stranger Things) I'm still not over him either.

(Book Choice)
Jacob (City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab) Does being a ghost count as a transformation?

KRISTOFF –   A Character Who Is A Down-To-Earth Hero.

Luke Danes (Gilmore Girls)

(Book Choice)
Atticus Finch (To Kill A Mockingbird) We're going to ignore 'Go Set a Watchman'
Or the dad character in 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' by Ray Bradbury

EMPEROR KUZCO – A Character Who’s Obnoxious But Still Lovable.

Jean Ralphio (Parks and Recreation)

(Book Choice)
Kips (Lockwood and Co) I disliked Kips at first but I was tricked into liking him later on.
