There's a musical called Hadestown which is more or less based on the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. It's a tragedy which they do warn you of in a very upbeat jazz number. It's a very fine line between false advertising and honesty. I would protest, but they did give the fine print up front. (all photos of me are mine, but all the other photos were from Pinterest)
Main 4 characters:
Enter Eurydice, a hungry young girl who's negotiating skills could use a little work.
Enter Persephone, goddess? of Spring, Queen of the Underworld, and resident alcoholic
Enter Hades, King of the Underworld, infatuated with the Industrial Revolution and big fan of walls, emotional or otherwise.
Eurydice and Orpheus have a meet cute, they get married, and Orpheus gets really wrapped in writing his song that will bring the world back into tune. I mean she did marry an artist, but also on a serious note he's not wrong. Hades and Persephone are having a rocky relationship, hence why the world is all out of whack. Eurydice, the hungry young girl is taking care of things but the winter is really bad and she's starving. So Hades comes in
After finding out what happened to Eurydice, Orpheus goes to save her. And sings potentially my favourite song on the soundtrack album, 'Wait For Me.'
If you don't know the story, I won't spoil the rest of it for you. That's just the general context for this whole cosplay-ish photoshoot that I did. If you're up for bootlegs there's a pretty good one on Youtube titled The Tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice Explained ft: Hadestown OBC . Not that I care if you watch/ listen to it. I barely have a passing interest in this musical. Truly mild interest. It's not even that good guys.
So now that context is out of the way here's photos...
There were so many sounds in the woods. There were these loud geese on one side, and this loud hoard of frogs that sounded like they were fast coming our direction. Who new frogs could sound so terrifying. It sounded like we were stuck between a goose/frog battle or something and both sides were angry.
This poor lady on her horse that we startled in the woods. She seemed really suspicious of us but we were explaining what we were doing and she was curious about the carnation I was holding and she seemed like she was less nervous about us and then she saw the feathers in my hair and got really excited. Everything changed after that, she started talking about her horses and cameras and whatnot.
channeling my love of being a feral woodland creature aside from having this gif going off in my head the whole time there were photos being taken.
it looks kind of like claw marks but it's just the bark. Need I say more
Special thanks to Skye's mom for photos and her sister for makeup. It turned out so well and I had a complete blast. I don't know, this whole thing meant a lot and I've been kind of obsessed. I adore this musical more than I can say.
The photos are absolutely gorgeous!! You killed this look. I didn’t need a reason to watch it again, but I’ll take it. I wonder if Orpheus’s Milo energy is his suspenders or his inability to talk to girls. XD
ReplyDeleteAnyway looks fantastic! You captured the aesthetic so well. Love the pops of red and the trees, and the whole outfit of course!
(That gif of Crowley) you said you were looking for someone failing to be seductive. I can’t say he’s failing. XD
Bravo though, you look enchanting!
Right!! Your mom is was perfect for this. Thanks! Everything came together after i found the coat.
DeleteBoth, both is good. XD
Same! It was one of the few overcast days we had that week and even though everyone else was complaining about it I was ecstatic to get the atmosphere I thought I'd missed already.
I had so many Crowley gifs I wanted to use for this post. But then this post would have actually taken 10 years to read so I had to take out a lot of them. XD (and he's definitely not failing lol)
Aw thanks! I can't believe how well everything worked out for this one
Your cosplay looks amazing. :) I love your vest. :D

Thanks! It's been such a long project in waiting I'm excited to have finally done it. Same! I bought it probably a year ago for this costume
DeleteI haven't seen Hadestown, but this photoshoot looks so cool. Woods can be such magical (and spooky sometimes) places.
ReplyDeleteThanks, It was really fun to do. Right! There's something so beautiful about it and it's the reason why I wanted to do this photoshoot in the woods.
DeleteI definitely recommend Hadestown, this one and Phantom 25th anniversary are my top two favourite musicals. You might like this one. If you do ever see it I'd love to know what you think! (good or bad)
Those photos are so neat!! It must have been so much fun to take all the pictures, and the end product is lovely as well! It seems like you KILLED the aesthetic.
ReplyDeleteRight! It turned out better than I was even hoping it would. It was! I usually prefer taking the photos because I like to see what's happening and I turn really spazzy in front of the camera so I was surprised it worked so well this time. Aw thanks! I put a lot of effort in
